Last week I attended the National Accordion Association’s National Convention in Dallas, TX. This was my 3rd time in 4 years of attending. The four days were wonderful. I had my first time experience playing “The Hallelujah Chorus” in an all accordion orchestra. I played the alto vocal part. Growing up as a cello and bass player, I usually played this chorus four to five times a year at Christmas and Easter time. This chorus has been imprinted in my brain… well the cello/bass part has. The new sounds and vibrations I experienced being surrounded by accordions filled me with a sensory experience I cannot explain.
This convention probably had the most diverse group of people I have ever seen at a convention. The one thing the attendees had in common was the accordion. Who needs pills to be happy? Just play the accordion. You can’t play accordion without smiling.
